One of the [fundamental elements of magic] in The Covenant.
Portals are paths through space which allow the instantaneous transmission of information and physical objects.
There are three basic forms of portal:
Eternity Gates were forged by the Elder Gods before the foundation of Primus. They are generally stable and safe for use. Well, sort of safe Because they link different realms, Eternity Gates have the potential to transfer individuals to atmospheres, gravities, and dimensional reference frames which are incompatible with their continued life or sanity. All realms linked to by eternity gates follow the laws of time, with the exception of very few Inverted Realms, where the path of time runs in perfect reversed order.
Primal Gates were forged by the Primal Gods within the realm of Primus. It is likely that similar portals exist in other realms. Primal Gates are the second most stable form of Portal and the most rare. Because these portals exist within the same realm, they threaten causality. If enough magical energy or causality-violating objects pass through the portal in a limited time, the Primal Gate may collapse, pouring magic into the earth between them and temporarily fracturing reality.
Echo Gates are forged by mages within a particular realm. It is very difficult to create an Echo Gate and the majority are forged by mortals, so few are large enough for a person to pass through.
